(Sept 2012 – Sept 2013)
Charlotte Botha is one of the youngest conductors in South Africa’s vibrant choral community. She believes that choral singing should be fuelled by love, energy, humour, healthy technique and efficient hard work.
Charlotte, a voice builder, singer, aural training lecturer, arranger and song-writer, grew up in Klerksdorp, where she started building her music career in piano, percussion and singing. She has been a member and soloist for numerous prestigious choirs, including the National Youth Choir of South Africa, Tuks Camerata, Cantinovum Chamber Choir (Finland), Akustika Chamber Singers and the World Youth Choir.
In 2009 she received her BMus degree from the University of Pretoria (cum laude) and will complete her MMus in Choral Conducting Performance under the supervision of Junita van Dijk and Peter-Louis van Dijk in November 2013. Although Charlotte has won numerous awards as a song-writer, film composer and singer, her main focus is on choral conducting, specialising in healthy choral sound.
She previously conducted the Pretoria High School for Girls choirs, Hoërskool Oos-Moot choir and from September 2012 – September 2013, Singkronies Chamber Choir. Charlotte is currently the second conductor for the Drakensberg Boys Choir and a music teacher at the school itself.
